Built using reclaimed timber, recycled windows and salvaged materials, the Megaden was designed as a peaceful garden retreat for relaxing, working and escaping everyday distractions.
Raised on stilts and measuring approximately four metres long by two and a half metres wide, the structure combines rustic workshop character with practical outdoor living. The pitched metal roof, reclaimed multipane windows and covered deck help create a cosy space that feels connected to the surrounding garden and landscape.
Inside, the Megaden evolved into a creative hideaway featuring pallet wood wall cladding, shelving, a small workspace, books, music, retro games and a wood-burning stove for colder days.
Part garden office, part workshop retreat and part quiet escape space, the Megaden became one of the most enjoyable reclaimed timber projects created at Udny Designs.
The finished Megaden combines reclaimed materials, rustic workshop character and practical outdoor living to create a cosy and creative garden retreat.
Features including the covered deck, reclaimed windows, pallet wood interior and wood-burning stove help create a warm and inviting space for relaxing, reading, working and enjoying the outdoors throughout the year.
The Megaden began with a raised timber platform and gradually evolved into a fully enclosed garden retreat built using reclaimed materials and workshop experimentation.
The build process included constructing the timber frame, fitting recycled windows and patio doors, cladding the interior with reclaimed pallet wood and gradually adding shelves, furniture and finishing details over time.
Projects like the Megaden often begin with reclaimed materials, rough sketches and a simple idea that gradually evolves over time. I’m currently exploring creative outdoor build ideas and downloadable project plans inspired by handmade projects like this.
