Custom Workshop Desk Builds

What began as a simple industrial-style desk build using reclaimed oak worktops and roller tool chests gradually evolved into a series of custom workshop-inspired desk projects for both myself and my boys.

Built using combinations of plywood cabinetry, roller toolboxes, integrated shelving and reclaimed materials, each desk was designed to combine practical workspace storage with creative features inspired by workshop and maker environments.

Over time the designs evolved to include custom shelving units, X-Carve engraved drawer fronts, hidden cable management, integrated lighting and bespoke control panels featuring USB charging outlets, toggle switches, fan controls and emergency stop buttons to power down the entire setup.

Each desk was designed and handmade in rural Scotland as a functional workspace for creativity, gaming, drawing, electronics and everyday use.

Each desk combines industrial workshop styling with practical workspace design, blending roller tool chests, plywood cabinetry and integrated electronics into highly functional creative workstations.

Features including hidden cable routing, built-in shelving, custom engraved storage drawers, USB charging points, lighting controls and emergency stop switches help create organised and adaptable spaces for work, creativity and everyday use.

The desk builds began with simple reclaimed worktops and roller tool chests before gradually evolving into more advanced custom workstations with integrated storage, lighting and electronic control systems.

The process involved designing plywood cabinetry, routing cable management channels, engraving custom drawer labels using the X-Carve CNC machine and experimenting with modular workshop-inspired layouts and features.
